The birds in spring
may call and sing
for land, for fare, for mates,
But listen close
And you'll hear boasts
Of more fantastic fates...

AVES: Ballads of Remex is a collection of tales, legends, and fables about the Birds hailing from Remex (a rolling, sleepy mountain range strangely resembling the Appalachian mountains of North America). Though their species and stories vary widely--a cardinal singing spells of ice and flame, a robin knight longing for the glory of battle, a sparrow scrying falsely into the future, a young titmouse seeking adventure on the back of a goose--all are stories of Birds making their way in a world full of magic, predators, and intrigue. All their stories--grand and mundane, joyous or sorrowful, serious or silly--are faithfully recorded and illustrated by Virginia Greene.

About the Ballads of Remex Virginia started drawing and writing the Ballads of Remex as part of the art community's Inktober challenge in 2016. She enjoyed it immensely, and the project grew beyond the challenge into a beast of its own, into a world rich with characters, lore, and stories--but still always about birds.
Virginia works on developing the world of Remex as a passion project, but if you are interested in supporting her work on it, you can do so via her Patreon. |
