Virginia Greene

Virginia is an illustrator, a biologist, and a park ranger. Her illustrations are inspired by a lifelong love and study of animals, nature, and stories.

Virginia has created illustrations for a wide variety of clients and purposes over her career, but always with a focus on nature. She focused on science illustration while completing an MFA at SCAD, and illustrated her own research and other scientists’ work while achieving a M.S. at William and Mary. She was the Bartels Science Illustrator for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, NY in 2016-2017. Since then she has worked for a number of conservation and nature-focused publications, government agencies, and nonprofits. In 2021, she published her first graphic novel with author and friend Mya Thompson—Winged Heroes, a book about birds and their superpowers! When she is not making art, she is outside, in awe of the natural world. Especially birds.

Virginia now lives and works in Staunton, VA, happily in the Blue Ridge mountains.

Notable Clients: Ranger Rick Jr., the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Land Trust Alliance, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and the Center for Conservation Biology.
